Bike, Solution to Transport Problem

With the looming Manila Railway Transit (MRT) shutdown, commuters are complaining of their foreseen travelling hardship: longer time travel to their workplace, unpredictable arrival at destination; saying that "kayo tuloy ang sweldo ninyo, samantalang kami puedeng matanggal sa trabaho" (referring to concerned officials, "your pay is ongoing, while we could be terminated from our jobs.")

The difficulties suffered by commuters at MRT: long queuing, overloaded coach, anxiety for their safety: the danger of breakdown, like derailment, problem with the rails; in other words the sorry condition of the MRT because of poor maintenance.

An MRT commuter spends an average of P50 per day for a five-day work, or P1,300 a month, Usually, they have to transfer to a bus,  jeepney, or a trike  to reach their destination which is outside of MRT line.

If you buy a motorized bike which could cost P60,000 inclusive of interest, and amortized in three years, that's P1,667 a month plus the cost of gasoline which is about P90 per week or an additional P360 a month, that totals to P2,007  plus cost of gears like helmet, other protective suits, approximately. After three years you do away with amortization. You're monthly cost for gasoline is P360 to 500 taking into consideration  gasoline price hike plus minimal maintenance cost. Aren't MRT considering upping its train fee?

The biggest benefit of a bike? Less travel time, less expense in the long run.

You may opt for non-motorized bike if your place of work is just a few kilometers away from home. Definitely less expense and a healthier living with daily exercise.

To mitigate motorcycle accidents, don't drive if you have to drink, and don't drink if you have to drive. And a mobile is a no, no! The government should consider a separate road for bikers.

Note: Cost is dependent on the size of the bike, amortization on the period it has to be amortized.
