We have seen suicide and massacres happening in school campuses. What could have caused it? Was it depression, isolation, family abuse, uncaring attitude of the parents, dysfunctional families, exposure to violent video games, pornographic materials,which make the young people desensitized.

Parents are so engrossed with making money, that they have relegated the rearing of their children to nannies. They work hard for the families’ welfare: want to send their children to good schools, give the best things for them, but neglecting the children’s value formation.

Not knowing what the children are reading or who their friends are, you would get the shock of your life as to what they might end up.

Natural and Man-Made Disasters and the Pillar of Fire

The cleansing of the world has been going on.

We had our share of cleansing in the Philippines when we were visited by the typhoon Ondoy, one year to to this day. Hundreds lost their lives and thousands were left homeless.

The Philippnes was caught unprepared by this disaster. Water rose to as high as a three-storey house. Most families in Cainta, Marikina and Pasig had to stay on their roof while waiting for their rescue. My son and his family had to stay in their second floor with only biscuits for them. They were forced to wade a waist-deep flood water with under currents, the following day for fear of another rain and go hungry.

This flood was attributed to heavy, continuous heavy rainfall for hours, exacerbated by the denudation of trees, clogged waterways, shallow rivers because they were not dredged.

Pastors, Priests: Find the Lost

Pastors and priests are being looked up to by the community. They have to discipline the Church; they are there to unify and not to divide, to find the lost ones, to lead them to Jesus.
A parish is full of churchgoers if the pastor/priest has a prepared homily all the time, and he is visible and accessible to them. The number of attendees to the service is a testament to the pastor/priest’ effectiveness. He has to pray, pray!

The devil wants to win over the holy ones, why would he approach someone who is his follower already?

There are pastors and priests who have gone astray. Humility and ardent prayer is what they need.

St. Pio of Pietrelcina and his miracles

Yesterday, September 23, was the feast of St. Pio of Pietrelcina.
I have heard of stories of answered prayers through the intercession of St. Pio. Finally, I was able to attend mass at the St. Pio shrine in E Rodriguez, Quezon City, Philippines. After the mass, I read the testimonies posted on the walls of the shrine. Two testimonies caught my attention:

• Gemma Di Giorgi - Gemma was born without pupils, she could not see. Doctors told her that she was inoperable because she had no pupils.
Her grandmother brought her to Fr Pio, still alive at that time and stigmatized. She confessed and Fr Pio made the sign of the cross on her two eyes.
While in the train on the way home, she could see her surroundings, the trees, the ocean and others.
She was again brought to the doctors without telling them that she could already see. Again the doctors told her that she was still blind, no pupils, and inoperable. So she said that she could see. The doctors asked her to identify the pictures shown to her. She was able to identify them. The doctors were amazed and said that it was a miracle.

• Bet Montecillo – a Filipino, had been suffering from a terrible back pain. After praying for the intercession of St. Pio and rubbing the Holy oil on the back of Mr. Montecillo, he got healed.

I prayed hard, in front of St Pio's relic, for the intercession of St. Pio for the physical and spiritual healing of my loved one, and that the lost ones may be given the light of Jesus. In addition, I dropped my written prayer requests in a box designated for it.

If your request/s are granted, you have to make your testimonies known to the Philippine Center for St. Pio of Pietrelcina. I hope to make my own testimonies soon.

I got home at 11:30 p.m., but I felt hopeful and lighthearted.

The Commonwealth Games Bridge Collapse

India is hosting the Commonwealth Games, an international sporting event which is supposed to begin on October 3. Problems are surrounding the event: the collapse of the pedestrian bridge connecting the park to the Jawarharlal Nehru Stadium, the condition of the living quarters for the athletes, alleged corruption. This reminded me of the construction of the Manila Film Center for the first Manila International Film Festival. The edifice is located in Pasay City.

Witchcraft & Christine O'Donell

I have heard/read of stories on witchcraft, like a witch making a person sick by pricking any part of the body through a doll, with a needle. I have no eyewitness account of the stories, but the story is persisting. Attention to it is greatly revived with the admission of Christine O’Donnell’s dabbling in witchcraft. They say, wicca, a form of witchcraft, is to heal or to counter the bad witchcraft. Whatever that is, it comes from the dark forces.

When I was in college, I and my fellow students dreamed of going to New York, perceived to be the place where you can further your career. We learned from school about the famous Statue of Liberty and the United Nations Headquarter where you can get employment. Some were able to make it, others were stopped because of an early marriage, or got a lucrative job in Manila.

New York City with its sky scrapers, seemed invincible. However, with the 9/11 event in 2001, proved it wrong. The latest storm brought strong damage to the city.
No place is exempt from disasters, natural or man-made.

The Greedy Prostitution Houses

In some parts of the rural areas in the Philippines, families have only one to two meals a day. They feed on corn and veggies from their garden, if there’s any.

In the desire of the younger members of the families for a better life, they are lured by the evil recruiters to go to Manila only to find themselves in prostitution houses. There was an instance when a child below 14 was brought to another Asian country with the promise to the father that the child would be better off with them. It was found out later that the child was brought to the prostitution house where she eventually died.

These incidents happen not only in the Philippines, but other third world countries.

Don’t be lured by grand promises of the greedy men. Pray for discernment, trust in the Lord.

Earthquake of 5.9 hit Mexico

Less than a month after the massacre of Central American migrants entering the U.S.A through Mexico, and its investigators and witnesses also killed, an earthquake hit Mexico. Could this be a warning sign from our Lord: start of cleansing?

Newborn dumped in an airplane trash

Children are precious, they could be your jewels or your shame depending on how you raise them.

Some couples could not have biological children for health reasons. However, some couples have more than they could manage financially.

Some couples abort the fetus, mostly, for financial reasons, or a mother or a single mother abort it to cover their shame. The last reason could have motivated the mother to dump her child in an airplane trash.

A loving, God-guided mother would do all she could in her power to save the life of her child, even to the point of giving her own life to save the child. So the mother who did that horrible act of leaving her newborn baby in an airplane trash will be judged...by God.

The first time I saw Susan Sarandon in The Other side of Midnight, I like her beauty and her role As Catherine Alexander Douglas. May women could relate to her role as a woman left for another woman.

Susan Sarandon whose real name is Susan Abigail Tomalin, a Catholic, married Chris Sarandon in 1967 and got divorced in 1979. She then got together with Tim Robbins, bore two children, then separated after 23 years. Sad.

When we marry, we hope to grow old together with the spouse, that during our twilight years, when the children have their own families already, the husband and wife would support each other spiritually and emotionally.

Some marriages fail. Our God allows separation in case of infidelity, but you cannot remarry. The Catholic Church allows remarriage, if the marriage is annulled, after a lengthy investigation that there was really no marriage or there was ADULTERY or VIOLENCE.
If you make your vow in the presence of the Lord, “to love till death do us part”, we make this promise to be together, and all effort should be made to make the marriage work. And for the marriage to work, God should be in our midst. If not, it is doomed.

Filipino Domestic helpers overseas

Filipinas, some degree holders, leave their families behind and work as a domestic helper abroad. Some are fortunate to work for humane employers. However, some fall under the hands of horrid employers. This inhumane treatment is suffered not only by Filipinos, but other Asian nationals, like what happened to a Filipino domestic helper in Saudi whose arms were flat-ironed.

When the Woodstock became popular in the Philippines in 1969, I was two years out of college, and I was one of the fans. This was the time they called “flower power”, the proliferation of drugs. I think this was the time when morality has gone down, me included.

People were enamored with something new, going out of the traditional.
Looking back, rock and roll plus the drugs greatly influenced the people: the young, the malleable ones, even the not so young who were beset by problems, taking drugs as an escape.

Are we delivered from that time which I consider dark moments. Do we want to remember that moments by celebrating this group? Are we after entertainment or we after profits?

We are answerable to God if we lead people away from Him.

I would like to recall the prophecy of Sherri Elijah on rock and roll:

Before and even after her death, Princess Diana was a hot item. I for one, adored her for the way she cared about her children, the charities she managed, and especially her beauty.
