Light & Darkness

Last night I was worried sick of what might have happened in a meeting, what could be the repercussions. I trusted in the Lord and prayed for His help that everything would turn out well.

After the meeting, I heaved a sigh of relief and thanked God that everything went well. You get that feeling that after darkness comes the light, after the night comes dawn.

Below is a beautiful reflection by Fr.Brian Steele, MGL, published through The Kerygma Family

LIGHT AND DARKNESS

Early risers appreciate the morning — it’s a wonderful part of the day when dawn breaks forth and the first rays of the sun catch the tall trees glistening after the night moisture. If ever I am up at that time, I appreciate these times of God’s glory. We all know the power of the sun to illumine the day, the soft light of the moon at night. Scripture is flooded with these two images of darkness and light.

Light overshadows darkness and that is precisely what happens when Jesus the Son of God is in town. Even the demons shudder as they are exposed to the brilliant light of the Son. They scream and call out, knowing that their reign of darkness has been conquered by the light of Jesus’ coming. Jesus speaks in the power of light and acts in the light. All that comes to Him is exposed by the light of day.

The image of darkness and light is also within us. Anyone who sins lives in darkness. Anyone who seeks to follow the teachings of Jesus in obedience and faith will always have the light of life. We need to be constantly vigilant in prayer, sacraments, reading and spiritual direction in order to remain in the light. It is a good thing every day to examine our conscience and enhance our discernment between darkness and light — to see what spirit is operating at our lives, whether good or bad. We owe our lives to Jesus who has delivered us from the darkness of sin and transferred us to the Kingdom of light. Fr. Brian Steele, MGL

Fr. Mar Subjuanite's homilies

October 17, Persistence

In the old testament, children and women did not have legal personality, so they didn’t witness or bring out charges in court. But a widow persisted in bringing her case to a judge and was awarded her request.

Fr. Mar related that his group planned a Light in the Spirit Seminar (LSS) at the Meralco Theater. To recover their cost, they should be able to have 200 participants at least. Initially, they only had two registrants. So, he asked the priest to pray that God send more participants. Their petition was granted. four hundred plus attended the LSS.

We have to pray unceasingly. When we pray, it teaches us to be humble.

Sept 5

On this day’s Sunday reading of the Gospel, Jesus said that to be His disciple, hatred should be absent in one’s heart and that the would be disciple should renounce his possessions.

Luke 14:25-33

… great crowds were traveling with Jesus, and he turned and addressed them, 26 “if any one comes to me without hating his father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple. 27 whoever does not carry his own cross and come after me cannot be my disciple.

everyone of you who does not renounce all his possessions cannot be my disciple.”
In this connection, Fr Mar related this story:

A a well off Frenchman and a professor , was married, with two grown-up children was appointed as an ambassador to the Vatican. During the course of his work as an ambassador, he met the Filino priests and was subsequently invited to the Philippines. During his stay in the Philippines, he decided to renounce his possessions and follow Jesus, He is now a seminarian in the Philippines and nearing his ordination as a priest.

If you were in his shoes, would you be able to do the same?

August 29

On Sunday’s, August 29 Gospel, Fr. Mar touched on humility and about inviting people to a feast. Invite ones who cannot repay you back.

He related a true story which happened in an airline. A white person was seated beside a black passenger. The white passenger created a scene. In a loud voice which could be heard by the other passengers, she demanded that she be transferred to another seat. The steward said that all seats were occupied. However, there was a vacant seat in the business class. “Then, transfer me there” said the white passenger. But the steward said that the black passenger would be transferred to the business class. Upon hearing this, the passengers clapped.

Humility pays off.

Below is the Gospel of August 29:
Luke 14:1, 7-14
1 On a sabbath Jesus went to dine at the home of one of the leading Pharisees, and the people there were observing him carefully. 7 He told a parable to those who had been invited, noticing how they were choosing the places of honor at the table. 8 “When you are invited by someone to a wedding banquet, do not recline at table in the place of honor. A more distinguished guest than you may have been invited by him, 9 and the host who invited both of you may approach you and say, ‘Give your place to this man,’ and then you would proceed with embarrassment to take the lowest place. 10 Rather, when you are invited, go and take the lowest place so that when the host comes to you he may say, ‘My friend, move up to a higher position.’ Then you will enjoy the esteem of your companions at the table. 11 For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted.” 12 Then he said to the host who invited him, “When you hold a lunch or a dinner, do not invite your friends or your brothers or your relatives or your wealthy neighbors, in case they may invite you back and you have repayment. 13 Rather, when you hold a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind; 14 blessed indeed
will you be because of their inability to repay you. For you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous.”

Mexico Massacre, Drug cartels, Organized crimes, other Business Cartels

Money, not rightfully earned, will not last.

Some people want easy money from lotto, other gambling dens, organized crime like drug cartels, hit men, making money from prostitution and pornography. Business cartels will fall into this category if the business is raking in profits at the expense of the poor.

It is horrifying to discover bodies in a ranch in Mexico, killed may be for refusal to submit to their extortion and to silence the other people who could be witnesses.

http://edition.cnn.com/2010/WORLD/americas/08/27/mexico.missing.police/index.html?hpt=T2#fbid=JtUk4r45LiP&wom=false

This is similar to the incident in the Philippines, where the high and mighty Ampatuans allegedly massacred their political rivals including innocent people and the members of the media. Are the Ampatuans the remnants of the past administration?

Are these people lording it over the poor people happy? They may have all the material things that money can buy, but are they happy? Whatever you do to your brother will also happen to you. If you sow, bad seed, you will harvest bad fruits. Likewise, if you sow good seeds, you will harvest good fruits, multiplied.

Our life on earth is temporary, we are only transients. In our next life, it is your choice: eternal suffering or a life of happiness where there is no sadness, no hunger; and there is rejoicing with our Lord..

Proverbs 22:7-9

The rich rule over the poor,
and the borrower is servant to the lender.

He who sows wickedness reaps trouble,
and the rod of his fury will be destroyed.

A generous man will himself be blessed,
for he shares his food with the poor.

We can see the sign of the times, if you don't repent and make restitution, you will be damned.

Hostage Drama in Manila: Live Media coverage or Lives?

During the hostage drama in Manila, when I learned that the unfolding scenes, that every move by the police were being being monitored by the hostage taker, it came to my mind that this was already a choice between the lives of the hostages or the live coverage of the media. Yes, everybody was updated on the “blow-by-blow” account of the hostage taking. But wouldn’t it have helped had the media coverage suspended during the crisis, or the power of the bus disabled? Remember, what matters most are lives.

I hope these thoughts could help concerned authorities on what to do in the future, in addition to forming a payer brigade. Acknowledge the immense power of God.

I think, police officers did their human best, putting their lives on the ine to protect the
lives of the hostages.Admittedly. Nine years of rule versus less than three months under President Noynoy, we expect too much.

This is a very good lesson for the Philippines as well as the international community.
This only showed that the Philippines have not risen totally yet from the effects of the nine-year rule of the past administration.

Below is the news on the angered media of HK on the proposed media curtail in the Philippines.

" Toddler walks two blocks to reach medical help for her father"

Toddlers at age three are not yet given responsibilities. We want the children to be free of responsiblities and let them enjoy their life. And most of the time we don’t trust their judgment.
This story will prove us wrong.

Is Lottery winning a Curse?

In the Philippines some who won the lottery were massacred, others ended up a pauper after a few years from the winning. Other winners are saying that relationship in the family deteriorated: children are into drugs, or spouses separate.

Is there a curse for winning a large sum of money without the pain of earning it?

Watch for Bo Sanchez’ talk during The Feast of August 22 for enlightenment via justin tv above.

Pre crime software

Predicting commission of a crime by a parolee is possible through a pre crime software.
This modern technology should be availed of by countries.

A parolee cannot get a job, how could he sustain a decent living? He almost always end up to committing a crime again.

Some were able to make a complete turn around through the help of religious institutions, by the visits to the prison and painstakingly lead them to the right direction with the help of the Word of God. Some eventually evangelize. Their life story is a shining example that if one repents, our God's light shines on them.

For the Lord says

Jeremiah 15:19
If you repent, I will restore you that you may serve me;
if you utter worthy, not worthless words,
you will be my spokesman.

PROFESSIONAL GOLFER ERICA BLASBERG'S SUICIDE

The death four months ago of professional golfer Erica Blasberg was ruled as suicide.

Blasberg shone in high school, and as a professional golfer. She was pretty, what could have driven her to commit suicide.
Taking one’s life is unpardonable, it is only God who can take it.

Genesis 2:7
The Lord God formed the man from the dust of the ground
and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life,
and the man became a living being.

Jeremiah 10:23
I know, O Lord, that a man’s life is not hisa own;
it is not for man to direct his steps.

Psalm 49:7-9
No man can redeem the life of another
or give to God a ransom for him—
the ransom for a life is costly,
no payment is ever enough—
that he should live on forever
and not see decay.

The Bloody Hostage Drama in Manila

The hostage drama in Manila started when the former police officer Rolando Mendoza, who lost his job in 2009, stepped into the Hong Thai tourist bus loaded with Hong Kong Chinese nationals. His demand was restoration of his job and benefits.

It is so sad that this tragedy injured and killed some Hong Kong Chinese nationals, left a bitter taste to the Filipinos, a peace-loving people.

Where did we go wrong? Could the media have contributed to the gruesome outcome? Did the policemen and the swat team handle the situation well?
Everybody should have prayed! There is no greater power than the power of God!

The Miss Universe Beauty Pageant or other Beauty Contests

I watch beauty pageants. I feel that I can connect with the world through the beauty contests, learning about their cultures and the physical beauty and the intellectual capabilities of the representatives. Each country is proud of their contestant. Each representative may be different from the other. One may embrace the “new norms” , others stick to their countries “norms”. Like in some countries they go swimming in the nude or go topless in the beach, others frown on this.

I was surprised by the photo shoot by Donald Trump of the contestants baring their top.
He is saying that they are not forced to do the nude photo shoot.

Yes, they are not forced but the fact that it was an instruction from Donald Trump, wasn’t there a feeling of pressure?

Below is an excerpt on Donald Trumps's comments from a news article :
''We are in a different age. They are a little bit sexy, but I'll tell you what - everybody's watching so I have nothing against it. The Miss USA pageant and the Miss Universe pageant just got renewed for three years by NBC. The ratings have been terrific. If you look at Miss America, it's now off-network television - and we're doing better than ever, so I really have no problem with it,'' Trump said.

Trump also stressed that the candidates were not forced to pose topless and could choose to pose on a conservative manner.

A representive of the Miss Universe Organization also said that nudity was not an issue for many of the countries represented by the pageant.

''The contestants who compete at Miss Universe are diverse as they represent more than 82 countries around the globe. Many of their cultures embrace nudity,'' the rep said in a statement.

Mark 7:21-22 says:

For from within, out of man's hearts, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, envy, slander, arrogance and folly...
The more we are accountable to God if we promote lewdness, sexual immorality and the other sins mentioned above.

Dengue, a dreaded disease

Dengue, a frightening disease is dreaded in the Philippines especially during the rainy season.
Breeding places could be in the grassy areas, in your own house where there is stagnant water untouched for over three days like flower vases, unused tires left on the yard which accumulate water.

When someone in the family has fever, I always think it could be dengue because of stories I've heard from other families getting afflicted by the disease.

To lose anxiety, always pray for God's protection.

Read my story on the link below on high fever.

Marital Problems Solutions

I am avid viewer of Willie Oliver, PhD and his wife Elaine, MA, in their weekly TV program at 3abn. Their topic is sorely needed by couples, especially the ones who are having marital problems: “Marriage, God’s Hands” this is being shown every Thursday 12:30 to 1:00 p.m. Philipine time.

To solve a marital conflict, the couple has these solutions:

1. Begin solving a conflict by praying
2. Set a specific time when to diuscuss the problem
3. Specify the issue, define it
4. Admit that that you have contributed to the problem,
5. Brainstorm, write it down
6. Set another meeting to discuss progress
7. Work on the probem as they arise
8. It should be a win win team,

However, the above may not apply in these situations:

1. A spouse is having an affair
2. There is physical, emotional abuse or substance abuse

The couple should always be guided by the following

Psalm 3:3-7

Let not kindness and fidelity leave you;
bind them around your neck;
Then will you win favor and good esteem before God and man,

Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
on your own iuntelligence rely not;
In all your ways be mindful of him.
and he will make straight your paths.

Be not wise on your own eyes,
fear the Lord and turn away from evil;
This will mean health for your flesh
and vigor for your bones.

Craiglist Killer Philip Markoff Committed Suicide

Philip Markoff, 24, former medical student accused Craiglist killer committed suicide inside the jail.

http://www.boston.com/news/local/breaking_news/2010/08/accused_craigsl_2.html

It seemed that Philip was heavily in gambling debt. He was allegedly committing robbery because of this burden.

In my previous posting, I said that if you commit a sin, other sins would follow. Philip started with gambling, this was followed by armed robbery, killing, and then finally taking his life which only God can take.

Lesson from James 5:19-20

My brothers, if one of you should wander from the truth and someone should bring him back, remember this: whoever turns a sinner from the error of his way will save him from and cover over a multitude of sins

Pakistan expects more flooding

Pakistan expects more flooding, millions are still in danger as the Indus River is cresting.
Almost 1,400 have died while 875,000 homes are washed away or damaged.

Although Pakistan is a Muslim country, I have this message given by Mama Mary and our Lord Jesus thuough Veronica Luenken of Bayside:

Virgin Mary –
“There will be more floods with death; more volcano eruptions with death; more accidents that are not accidents; until you will surely come to your senses and realize that there is a higher power working at this time to bring you to your knees.” (6-18-86)

You are preparing to reap the whirlwind!

Crucifix on front and back door...

Jesus -
"Pray and wear your sacramentals. And, also, My children, I ask you again to place a crucifix upon your door. Both front and back doors must have a crucifix. I say this to you because there will be carnage within your areas, and this will pass you by if you keep your crucifix upon your doors." (6-30-84)

Jesus -
"All who place the crucifix upon their front doors shall be saved like the passing of the lamb." (6-18-84)

Wildfire in Russia still ongoing

The wildfire in Rusia has been raging for three weeks already, leaving more than 50 people dead and over 3,500 homeless. Thousands of workers and military personnel are trying to contain it. One Russian said that only God and rain can help. The estimated cost of the fire- $15 billion.

Am glad to hear that some people in Russia acknowledge the power of God. Pray!

Heed the call of our Lord:

Jesus -
"Great elemental tragedies, disasters, manmade and God - sent upon mankind, shall increase in volume, shall increase in intensity and numbers. Remember, My children, you do not understand that supernatural, for there will be accidents that are not accidents." (5-26-79)

Disasters in China & Russia

China and Russia are communist countries, they don't believe in God. With the terrible disasters happening in these countries, isn't it high time for them to acknowledge our Lord. Our God is only waiting for your cry of mercy. Get to your knees and pray! God who is omnipresent and omnipotent, nothing is impossible with Him.

The Blessed Virgin Mary wants us to be saved. This is one of the messages of the Virgin Mary through Veronica Luenken at Bayside, USA.

Our Lady – “There will be more floods with death; more volcano eruptions with death; more accidents that are not accidents; until you will surely come to your senses and realize that there is a higher power working at this time to bring you to your knees.” (6-18-86)

MOSTAFEI now under EU PROTECTION

Iranian lawyer for Ashtiani, MOSTAFEI, now under EU diplomatic protection, but wife still held by Iranian authorities without a charge. Keep on praying for them.

Prayer for Mostafei:
Psalm 27-1-2

The Lord is my light and my salvation--
whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the stronghold of my life—
of whom shall I be afraid?
When evil men advance against me
to devour my flesh,
when my enemies and my foes attack me,
they will stumble and fall

Prayer taught by Jesus through TLIG (Let's all pray this)
"Righteous One, Beloved Father,
blessed be Your Name,
assemble all Your faithful ones,
let the heavens proclaim Your Righteousness,
let every lip praise Your Holy Name continually,
malice must be banished from the deceivers,
help those whose spirit is crushed,
revive them as Your Word has guaranteed,
the vow I have made I will keep and fulfill,
I pray for Your Churches,
may they all be one, Father,
may they be one in You;

TLIG PRAYER RETREAT IN CALIFORNIA

If you are from California or is visiting in November 2010, consider attending the ECUMENICAL PRAYER RETREAT sponsored by the True Life in God TLIG) on Nov 12 to 14.

Be informed on why natural and man-made disasters are happening.
Below is the invitation of TLIG:

American Association for True Life in God's, 4th Annual North America Ecumenical Prayer Retreat - 2010
For Readers - their Friends & Family in the USA or Visiting Los Angeles, USA

Welcome Everyone to our AATLIG Los Angeles, California Retreat
We have just about one month left to secure all reservations for our LA Retreat. We will be having A Greek Orthodox priest, two Roman Catholic priests and a Maronite priestmaking presentations to our group on the theme of Humility and Love This is our fourth retreat and we had an overwhelmingly positive response to last year’s retreat in Chicago, Illinois. This year’s retreat will be even better than last year!! Our hotel is located only 1.24 miles from the LAX Airport with complimentary shuttle service. How good is that!

In our days, with economic disasters, man-made disasters, natural disasters and almost daily rumors of wars, when we make the effort to reach out and participate in a prayer retreat we receive sanctifying graces and encouragement in our spiritual life and new strength from above.
Jesus says:

February 7, 1991
I am the Hope the world is looking for; this Hope they are looking for is within their reach; they have but to stretch their hands towards Heaven and search Heavenly things; they could seek Me and I shall respond to them; I am not hiding My Face, nor am I turning My Eyes away from them; My Eyes observe you all and survey all your steps;
My Spirit indeed fills the whole world to brighten this darkness and give Hope to those who grope their way in this endless night; beloved, with Heaven your homeland, and earth your pilgrimage, all the more reason to rejoice and to hope;
O creation, am I to unveil your death shroud and not bring you to life? or I, who bring to life, am I to send you back to death? I am Mercy, I am Love; look up in Heaven and see the Signs of the Times; I am coming to gather nation after nation and show My Holy Face to each one of you and remind you of My Love;
but look, the beginning of sorrows has started; the beginning of your birth pangs too, you are witnesses, since you became believers, that what you read in Scriptures is coming to reality: the outpouring of My Spirit in these last days of darkness is being poured out lavishly upon mankind; you are witnesses to things which were in riddles and said in parables before; you are witnesses of Satan's cruelty, but I promise you, little children, that soon after your sorrows (which will aggravate) will come Joy, and after your birth pangs, Love will be born among you!

As usual, the volunteer association has tried to keep costs as low as possible but it also means you have to hurry up and reserve space now or we will be unable to secure enough space at the low price we have arranged for.

Not everyone in North America has been able to participate in the International pilgrimages and experienced a taste of what Unity is really all about. If you are one of these people - make a special effort to participate in this years USA retreat.
The reservation sheet shows that we have a variety of options for you to choose from. We have also secured a special rate for people wishing to come in a day earlier, Thursday, November 11th. In addition, we have ‘day rate’ options for people living in the local area.
The only way to secure your reservations is through True Life in God.
at this website you can print out a registration form: http://www.tlig.us/retreats1.html
and the PDF is available here: http://www.tlig.us/images/LA%20Retreat%20Nov%2010.pdf

Please do not call the hotel and do not make reservations online through online hotel booking services. We have special contractual obligations with the hotel. If you have any questions, call Arpy Gouloomian at 818- 952-2183 or 818-522-9487. You can also email Arpy at: Apry79@aol.com .

"The Life that I Have" at Chelsea's wed

This poem was read during the wedding of Mark and Chelsea. It is a beautiful expression of a deep love for a special someone, the spouse. If only all the spouse would remember this commitment in the presence of God, then no broken marriages would happen.

"The Life That I Have"
By Leo Marks

The life that I have
Is all that I have
And the life that I have
Is yours

The love that I have
Of the life that I have
Is yours and yours and yours

A sleep I shall have
A rest I shall have
Yet death will be but a pause

For the peace of my years
In the long green grass
Will be yours and yours
And yours

Priest in Mexico Killed

Priests are human, they also commit sins. However, they are the apostles of God when they offered themselves to serve God.

Please be guided by the verses from the book of Hebrews:

Hebrews 7:17
For it is declared:
“You are a priest forever in the order of Melchizedek.”

23-27
Now there have been many of those priest, since death prevented them from continuing in office; but because lives forever, he has a permanent priesthood. Therefore he is able to serve completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them. Such a high priest meets our need—one who is holy, blameless, pure, set apart from sinners, exalted above the heavens. Unlike the other high priests, he does not need to offer sacrifices day after day, first for his own sins, and then for the sins of the people. He sacrificed for their sins once for all when he offered himself.

The Catholic Church is short of priests, so it is so sad to hear of priest killed like what happened in Mexico, a priest already in in his 84 was bound and killed

Go to the news below on the killing of a priest in Mexico:
